Firmly Planted Spotlight: Reclaiming the Arts — Lucinda Brown

I've had a variety of teaching roles over the years that have been thoroughly enjoyable, but by far the best experience of them all has been tutoring at Firmly Planted Homeschool Resource Center. Whether working one-on-one as a Barton reading and spelling tutor or leading art workshops for kids, my heart is filled with gratitude and joy. As we pursue the goal of saving a generation and the future of our nation, my life has so much purpose in this season.

Guiding people in art through the lens of Christian faith is my passion. The marriage of the two is such a beautiful thing! In my workshops we talk a lot about God’s creativity, the beauty of His creation, how we were made in His image, and how He takes delight in people learning these principles and putting them into practice. My aim and purpose is to share this message with kids as we work together in the art studio.

Too many people in our culture find art to be mysterious– something that only a few “gifted” folks can have the pleasure of pursuing. My task as I lead these workshops is to help children and their parents connect the dots and see things differently. Art is a valuable subject that rounds out education, stimulates creative problem-solving, helps us view history visually, and brings tremendous enrichment. Art is all around us, and it's important to perceive and experience in a way that honors God. I also understand art to be a reflection of what is going on within a society. We can see by what's out there now that our culture desperately needs God. This is a day when the church needs to reclaim the arts for God's sake, and what better way to do that than to showcase the Biblical truth about the arts to our children?

We have a wonderful Center here for the homeschool community with so many resources, classes, and activities. This beautiful place includes an Art Studio that is well-equipped to bring God-honoring joy and creativity into the lives of kids, and I am beyond thankful to be a part of it.
